How the bubble rating works

Your bubble rating fills in half steps, so going from 4 to 4.5 is one big jump, not five small ones. Tripadvisor says its rating also looks at how recent your reviews are, not only the average, so recent reviews pull harder. From 4.0 with 80 reviews, about 27 new 5-bubble reviews should get you to 4.5 in plain average terms.

Getting reviews on Tripadvisor

  • Review Express, Tripadvisor's free email tool for owners, sends guests a review request.

Questions people ask

Why didn't my bubbles go up after a 5-bubble review?

Bubbles move in half steps, so you need enough reviews to cross the next half. Tripadvisor also weighs recency, so it can lag a little.

Do old Tripadvisor reviews count less?

Tripadvisor says recency is part of its rating, so newer reviews matter more.

Can I remove a Tripadvisor review?

You can report one that breaks Tripadvisor's guidelines from your owner account. See removing bad reviews.
